New owner for Inn at Loretto
Jim Long, partners add SF spa resort to growing stable of NM hotels
The historic Inn and Spa at Loretto is coming under new ownership. Jim Long, founder and CEO of Heritage Hotels and Resorts Inc., along with an investor group led by Randy Talbot announced today that they are acquiring the property.
“The Loretto’s iconic architecture, modeled after Taos Pueblo, make it one of the most photographed buildings in the state,” Long said in a news release. “We are delighted to add Loretto to our portfolio of culturally designed New Mexico properties and look forward to introducing our guests to this new experience.”
Heritage Hotels and Resorts has purchased other historic hotels around New Mexico, including Hotel St. Francis in Santa Fe and Palacio de Marquesa in Taos, and with the Loretto purchase will have more than a dozen hotels in the state.
Long plans only minor renovations for the Inn and Spa at Loretto.
“The property has already had a lot of renovation dollars put into it. Almost $12 million put in,” Long told the Journal. “So the property is actually in fine shape.” The inn, which was founded in 1975 by the Kirkpatrick Family, underwent extensive interior renovations in 2009.
Long’s goal with The Inn at Loretto is to “make the outdoor landscapes more captivating,” create more dynamic outdoor dining and seize on opportunities for outdoor events like festivals and concerts.
The Inn at Loretto has two restaurants, Luminaria Restaurant and Patio for fine dining and The Living Room at Loretto for a more casual experience.
In addition to the spa, Loretto also houses six retail shops, Faircloth Adams, Handwoven Originals in Santa Fe, Little Bird at Loretto, Liquid Outpost, Timbavati and Abbate Fine Art, according to the Loretto website. Heritage does not have plans to change the lineup.
“Most of the tenants represent what we would want the hotel to represent,” said Long. “But, you know, we will continue to look for special retailers that make or sell very unique products.”
The Inn and Spa at Loretto has 136 guest rooms and Santa Fe’s only penthouse, according to the Heritage Hotels and Resorts news release. It also contains 12,000 square feet of event, meeting and wedding space.
The Inn at Loretto has been a AAA four-diamond property since 2009.
