BASKETBALL
HONORED: The state’s all-time leading scorer, D.J. Bustos of West Las Vegas, drew some national attention this week when USA TODAY High School Sports named him to the second team of the ALL-USA New Mexico Boys Basketball Team.
SKIING
IMPROVEMENTS: The ongoing work at the five area ski resorts owned by a group headed by local businessman James Coleman will continue this offseason with another $15 million investment. At Parajito Mountain Ski Area near Los Alamos, improvements on its snowmaking infrastructure with enhancements to the holding pond and the snowmelt collection system will continue and a brand new pump has been fitted into the pond filling system. At Sipapu Ski Resort, a new 2,141-square-foot addition to the historic Lodge will debut during the 2017-18 winter season, including a new rental shop with upgraded ski and snowboard rental equipment, a new ticket office, retail space and improved traffic flow with more gathering space, new bathrooms and a ski locker room.

DÉJÀ VU: Local resident Caroline Rotich, who won the 2015 Boston Marathon but had to pull out of last year’s race with an injury, suffered the same fate during last week’s running of the event. Rotich made it about 20 miles into the race, said her trainer, Ryan Bolton, before blisters forced her to the sidelines.
