- JOURNAL STAFF REPORT

See the unveiling of new public art, recognize this year’s “Outstanding Citizens” and congratulate some area school sports teams — this while also enjoying music, food, games and activities for children during the Day in Paradise celebration on Sunday.

The annual celebration of the Paradise Hills community will happen at Paradise Hills Park, 5901 Paradise NW.

Festivities start at noon at the Paradise Hills Community Center Annex at 6901 Paradise — a block west of the park — when Bernalillo County dedicates the new public art sculptures “Cornflowers,” according to a county news release.

After that, the park will be site of the “familyfriendly community event” featuring food, music and other activities.

At 1:30 p.m., Outstanding Citizens will be recognized for their community involvement, the county says.

They are: Suzana Demusaj, who is being honored for her volunteer work with the Paradise Hills Little League; and Deane Lamb, who is being honored for her volunteer work in the Sierra Vista Elementary School library.

Area sports teams will also be recognized: the Cibola High School girls soccer team for winning the 6A state soccer championship; the Volcano Vista boys basketball team for winning the 6A state basketball championship; and the Tony Hillerman Middle School boys basketball team for winning the APS middle school basketball championship.

Following the ceremony, entertainment provided by community groups and a live DJ will continue until 5 p.m.

Also as part of the event, United Blood Services will be conducting a blood drive. Donors can set an appointment and complete a health history online the day of the drive by going to www.unitedbloodservices. org. Drop-ins will also be welcome, the county says.
