Orlando City blanks struggling Rapids

Dallas, Portland battle to draw

-

ORLANDO, Fla. — Carlos Rivas scored from distance midway through the second half and Joe Bendik had to make only one save to earn his third shutout as Orlando City remained unbeaten at home with a 2-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

Kaká, a former World Player of the Year who has been out since injuring a hamstring in the season opener, subbed in at the 60-minute mark and provided the clincher for Eastern Conferenceleading Orlando City (6-10), which is 5-0 at home, in stoppage time.

Rivas notched his first goal of the season in the 70th minute, a left-footed rocket from outside the box into the upper right corner that left Zac MacMath flatfooted.

Colorado (1-5-1) had only three shots, just one on target. It was only the 16th on-target ball for the Rapids this season. Going into the day, Colorado was last in the league in on-target shots by nine.

FC DALLAS 2, TIMBERS 2: In Frisco, Texas, Tesho Akindele scored his first goal in the 80th minute and FC Dallas rallied twice to tie Portland in a battle of the top two teams in the Western Conference.

Dallas (4-0-3), which allowed just three goals in its first six games, limited Portland (5-2-2) to six shots, two on goal. The Timbers, who had 18 goals in eight games, scored on both. That was enough to keep Portland two points above Dallas, the last remaining unbeaten team.
