Chavez’s Dream week pays off more for UNM with Derby bet
Larry Chavez Sr.’s Dream week continued Saturday, and the University of New Mexico continues to benefit.
After Wednesday’s announcement that Chavez, owner of Dreamstyle Remodeling, would give $10 million over 10 years to UNM and get naming rights for University Stadium and the Pit, he placed a bet at The Downs at Albuquerque for $100 on Always Dreaming to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby.
It paid $570 — he showed the Journal a copy of the winning ticket. He plans to contribute $175 to UNM Children’s Hospital, $175 to Popejoy Hall and $175 to UNM’s Anderson School of Management.
“The remaining $45 is pizza for DreamStyle employees,” Chavez wrote in an email.
