Detectives are looking for a suspect in the murder of a 42-year-old man on Zuni near Pennsylvania last month, according to a spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department.

Officer Fred Duran said they have issued an arrest warrant for 30-yearold Cory Chandler, who they believe killed Harvey Saavedra.

Officers responding to a shots fired call on April 28 found Saavedra with a gunshot wound in his head lying next to a mobile home park in the 8000 block of Zuni SE. He died at the scene.

Witnesses said they saw Saavedra, whom they called “Beast,” fighting with another man. They said they heard Saavedra say, “If you pull that gun out again you better use it,” right before he was shot, according to an arrest warrant filed in Metropolitan Court.

Detectives watched surveillance camera footage from a home nearby and saw a man following Saavedra right before the apparent shooting. Then the man ran east with a handgun in his hand, according to the affidavit.

Police released photos of the suspect and an anonymous tip eventually pointed them to Chandler, who is now charged with an open count of murder.

“Anyone coming into contact with Chandler or (who) has information about his location should consider him armed and dangerous,” Duran wrote in an email.
