FROM WIMBLEDON: Bernard Tomic is bored with his tennis game? Welcome to the club. Wake me up when Federer or Djokovic wins the men’s final, and of course immediately collapses on center court as if shot by a rifle from 30 yards. — Allan, father of an attorney

SINCE UNM assistant basketball coach Chris Harriman was under contract for next season, he could have been given a slight raise and named interim coach for one year. UNM would probably still have most, if not all of their players coming back to field a competitive team this season. Then they could have taken their time in finding a permanent coach. Unbelievably, the “rush-rush” policy is again in place for a new athletic director. Why? The choice had better be a good one as UNM athletics is hanging on the side of a cliff. — N.M. Old Timer

FOR TOO LONG APS HS football has been underfunded and overregulated, even though football is the only sport generating a sizable income for APS. Administrators are vague about funding, bus transportation and even regulate the number of volunteer (i.e. male adult role model) coaches. Yet, the teams still respectfully struggle and sometimes win against the cash rich and highly coached teams from Rio Rancho and elsewhere in NM. Where is the pride in the APS sports administrators? Fully fund football, including 7 person flag football in middle school. These student-athletes learn teamwork and graduate.
