LEADING OFF

-

A look at what’s happening all around the majors today:

ONE ON ONE: Angels star Mike Trout takes on Boston lefty David Price (5-2) and the first-place Red Sox. Price is coming off a start Sunday night when he struck out eight in eight innings of a 3-0 win over the Yankees at Fenway Park. Price is 3-0 in his last four outings. WELCOME TO THE DESERT: New outfielder J.D. Martinez hopes to make his first home start for the Diamondbacks when they host NL East-leading Washington. Acquired in a trade with Detroit this week, Martinez was hit on the left hand by a pitch Wednesday in Cincinnati, his first game with Arizona. “Definitely a scary situation. I was already nervous as it was for the day,” the slugger said. X-rays were negative and Martinez was available off the bench Friday night against the Nationals. SHOWDOWN AT WRIGLEY: Longtime rivals square off in Chicago when Cardinals righthander Adam Wainwright (11-5, 5.08 ERA) faces Cubs lefty Jon Lester (6-6, 4.07). Wainwright is 4-0 with a 4.18 ERA in his last four starts. Lester pitched seven crisp innings Monday in a 4-3 victory at Atlanta. Chicago third baseman Kris Bryant, last year’s NL MVP, could miss the entire series with a finger injury. Bryant sprained his left little finger on a headfirst slide Wednesday. X-rays were negative, but Bryant is experiencing soreness. SEASON DEBUT: Collin McHugh comes off the disabled list to make his first start of the year for AL-leading Houston at Baltimore. McHugh, who is 43-26 with the Astros from 2014-16, has been sidelined all season with an elbow injury.
