METRO-AREA GIRLS SOCCER PLAYERS TO WATCH

- — James Yodice

Eliza Mariner, jr., F, Albuquerque Academy: Could be 5A’s top goal scorer this upcoming season; tallied over 30 last year. Miranda Hart, sr., F, St. Pius: No one can replace Tatiana Limon, but the Michigan State-bound Hart is enormously skilled. Lexi Baca, sr., F, Cibola: Last year’s Gatorade Player of the Year for New Mexico, and headed for the University of New Mexico. Kat Robinson, sr., GK, La Cueva: Future Pittsburgh Panther registered a .622 goals-against average last season for the Bears. Gabby Garcia, sr., GK, Cleveland: If there’s one 6A ’keeper out there even stingier than Robinson, it might be Garcia (.431 GAA). Genevieve Gray, sr., MF, Bosque School: Arguably the most valuable player in the 1A-4A classification; had 50-plus goals last year. Sam Jeffries, soph., GK, Sandia Prep: Posted stellar numbers last year (.089 GAA) and figures to get better. Brianna Martinez, sr., MF/F, Volcano Vista: A possible future member of a women’s World Cup roster. Headed to Notre Dame. Mackenna Havenor, sr., MF/F, Albuquerque High: Like Cibola’s Baca, one of 6A’s most accomplished goal scorers last season. Adelita Macias, sr., GK, Sandia: Must be sure to add Macias’ name to that short list of great netminders in 6A. Karlee Maes, sr., MF, La Cueva: Also will sign later this school year with the Lobos. Kylie Spangler, sr., F, Los Lunas: Had 23 goals and 20 assists last season, making her one of 5A’s more versatile threats.
