Oliva, Richard Francis

Richard Francis Oliva, age 74, a resident of Albuquerqu­e for 12 years, died unexpected­ly Tuesday, August 29, 2017.

He is survived by his three daughters, Christine Oliva, Abby Frances Oliva-Stewart and husband, Paul Stewart, and Molly Oliva and fiancee Sean Mortazavi; and other relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dominick and Mary Oliva; and brother, Robert Oliva.

He was born in 1943 in Queens, NY and graduated from Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, NY. Richard received his Bachelors of Science in Management in 2001 and Master’s Degree in Business Administra­tion with an emphasis on Global Business in 2002, both from Pepperdine. He obtained an additional Master’s Degree in Education from National University. Richard taught 6th grade language arts at Jimmy Carter Middle School for the last decade. He also was active in the Teachers Union and PTO, and was instrument­al in starting an Adult ESL Program. Richards passion was for his students and the greater community of Jimmy Carter. He loved the Arts and traveling the world, using those experience­s in broadening the horizons of his students. Although he has lived in California and New Mexico, he has always been a New Yorker, loving the Knicks, the Giants, and most of all his beloved Yankees. Richard was a loving father, son, brother, coworker, teacher, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
