James G. Steger

Lt. Col. USAF (retired), age 90, a dedicated husband and father, passed away, Friday, September

15th, 2017. Jim attended the College of St. Thomas and University of Chicago. He spent one year in the regular Navy, two years in the Air Reserves, and 20 years in the Air Force. He spent six years at the headquarte­rs of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), and was a group leader at Los Alamos Laboratori­es for 13 years.

He is survived by his four children, Mary Lynne (Steger) Paoletti and husband, Michael of Maryland, Jim Steger and wife Betsy of Albuquerqu­e, Cindy (Steger) Shields and husband Bob of Albuquerqu­e, and Jon Steger and wife Shari of Nebraska, and 13 grandchild­ren and 17 great-grandchild­ren.

Jim will be remembered by his family and friends as someone who always stood up for what he believes in, even if it meant telling Generals or the President "NO!".

A viewing will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. with the Rosary to follow at 6:30 p .m. at FRENCH Wyoming, Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Annunciati­on Church, 2532 Vermont NE. Internment will take place Thursday, September 21, 2107 at 9:00 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
