No one has a right to do what the motorcyclists did
I HAVE been an avid motorcycle rider for over 50 years. I will be 66 next month. What amazes me with all the criticism the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and the sheriff himself have received from the media and a group called the motorcycle rights group is that I have heard very little about how out of line the cyclists really were.
They were at the very least breaking the law, endangering their lives and other lives of motorcyclists riding in the group with them, resisting arrest, as well as serious and numerous violations of the law. Yet the media is focusing on the video that has not been shown in its entirety (and) has been furnished to the media with information deleted, such as the license plate numbers. It would be responsible journalism to for once show the entire information or refuse to show only information that makes officers of the law look like the bad guys here. Remember, if they felt that they are really in the right, why have they not come forward and turned themselves in, along with a true picture of (what) happened in its entirety that day?
Another issue I have is all the responsible riders out there need to step up and voice their opinion in favor of the sheriff’s department. This … irresponsible group has done more in one afternoon to restore the old vision that motorcycle riders are outlaws. They stand against everything that real motorcyclist enthusiasts live for. Every day, I hear how motorists don’t respect motorcyclists. When motorcyclists act this way, it is hard for anyone to respect them — including other motorcycle enthusiasts.
This president of the so-called motorcycle rights group needs to learn … no one, not even a motorcyclist, has the right to do what that group did. To protect them and not turn their information in (to) the sherriff’s office itself makes him just as guilty as the rest of that group. FRANK BUSHMAN Albuquerque
