Ellen (Susan) Bromberg Skolnick passed away on October 14, 2017. She was born on February 15, 1954 in Albuquerqu­e, NM to Marilyn and the late Sheldon Bromberg.

She attended Jefferson Junior High, Highland High School, and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Denver. After graduating from college, Susan moved to Houston, TX and then New York City where she worked as a buyer for children’s wear at the May Company. She then went on to open a gourmet shop called Good Enough To Eat on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Susan married Robert Skolnick in 1980, gave birth to their daughter, Rebecca, in 1985, and establishe­d her life in New York City.

Susan was a strong, funny, generous, compassion­ate woman who despite living for over 30 years with diffuse scleroderm­a, made the most out of life. Her disease never defined her. Susan traveled all over the world, volunteere­d at Mount Sinai Hospital and the National Kidney Foundation, counseled numerous patients on how to live with illness, and taught doctors how to treat patients as human beings. She served as an inspiratio­n for her many friends and family.

Susan is survived by her husband, Robert Skolnick; daughter, Dr. Rebecca Skolnick; mother, Marilyn Bromberg; and siblings Steven, David, Chyah, and Ann Bromberg.

She was buried in New York on October 16, 2017. Contributi­ons can be made in her memory to the Reca nati/Miller Transplant­ation Institute (RMTI) at Mount Sinai Hospital.
