FOOTBALL: FIVE GAMES TO WATCH THIS WEEK

- — James Yodice

All 7 p.m. Friday games.

1. Eldorado (6-3, 2-1 in 2-6A) at La Cueva (7-1,

1-1), Wilson Stadium: The Bears finally return “home” after their grueling six-game road odyssey that took them to faraway places like Milne Stadium and the east sideline of Wilson. (And also the Field of Dreams, but whatever.) Major implications regarding playoff seeding here. That they really hate each other is sort of part of this, too. What’s the opposite of BFFs? That’s what these two are. 2. St. Pius (5-3, 1-1 in 5-5A) at Belen (8-0, 2-0): The Eagles face a demanding two-game stretch to close, with Los Lunas waiting in the wings in the season finale after this visit from the Sartans. An abundance of terrific athletes on display here. 3. West Mesa (5-3, 2-1 in 4-6A) at Valley (3-5, 2-1), Milne Stadium: Loser is out of playoff contention; winner will finish in second place in district and perhaps have a chance at an at-large bid. 4. Piedra Vista (4-4, 1-1 in 1-6A) at Volcano Vista (5-3, 0-2), Nusenda Community Stadium:

See my column today for more information on this game. Too complicated to review here.

5. Portales (7-1, 2-0 in 4-4A) at Moriarty (7-1, 2-0): Top-ranked Rams come into Moriarty to face the fourth-ranked Pintos in a critical district matchup. Moriarty needs a win if it hopes to eventually get a first-round playoff bye.
