Police arrested a carjacking suspect who shot a man and fled a crash in Northeast Albuquerque on Friday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.

Francisco Gonzales, 26, has been jailed and charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, shooting at or from a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident with great bodily harm.

Police say Gonzales pulled a gun on a woman who gave him a ride, shot a man in the car and crashed into another vehicle, causing serious injuries to the driver. He was arrested after trying to break into a house.

Police say officers responded to the incident around 1:40 p.m. near Comanche and San Mateo NE.

A woman told police she picked up a friend she saw walking down the street and Gonzales, who was with him. She did not know Gonzales.

Gonzales, who was in the back seat, became “agitated” and pulled out a gun before firing the gun twice, according to police. The woman’s friend began yelling at Gonzales before getting out of the car and fleeing on foot.

Officers believe that man was hit in the buttocks or lower back by one of the bullets after detectives found blood on the door and window.

Police say that’s when Gonzales got out of the car, pulled the woman out of the front seat, and drove away.

He immediately crashed into a sport utility vehicle, causing severe injuries to the other driver.

Gonzales tried to flee the crash, but a bystander blocked the car with his vehicle and pulled a gun on Gonzales, according to police.

Police say Gonzales then tried to kick down the front door of a nearby house. When that didn’t work, he tried to carjack another vehicle before running into the backyard, where he was arrested.

Police said the driver injured in the crash was taken to a hospital with severe injuries, while the man who was shot has not been identified or located.
