Lightning scoring duo still on tear

Senators hold off Flyers; Wild gets past Islanders

TAMPA, Fla. — Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov are piling up points to help the Tampa Bay Lightning get off to its best start ever.

The Tampa Bay stars became the seventh set of teammates in NHL history to start the season with point streaks of at least 11 games as the Lightning beat Detroit 3-2 on Thursday night.

“It’s icing on the cake right now,” Stamkos said. “It’s pretty cool to be part of a stat like that but no one remembers those things. Years from now it’s what the team did that year.”

Kucherov got his 12th goal in the first period, and set up Stamkos’ power-play goal from the low left circle that put Tampa Bay (9-1-1) up 2-1 at 6:22 of the third.

SENATORS 5, FLYERS 4: In Ottawa, Jean-Gabriel Pageau had a goal and two assists and Erik Karlsson added two assists as Ottawa beat Philadelph­ia.

The Flyers appeared to score midway through the third period but after a coach’s challenge the goal was reversed due to goaltender interferen­ce.

Less than a minute later, Tom Pyatt scored at 10:33 to give the Senators a 5-2 lead before Ivan Provorov and Sean Couturier cut that lead to 5-4 with goals three minutes apart later in the period.

WILD 6, ISLANDERS 4: In St. Paul, Minn., Eric Staal had a goal and assist as Minnesota beat New York.

Marcus Foligno, Jason Zucker and Jonas Brodin also scored for Minnesota. Goalie Devan Dubnyk stopped 29 shots to win for the second time in six starts this season .

Anthony Beauvillie­r, Nick Leddy, Anders Lee and Mathew Barzal scored for New York, which had won three in a row. HURRICANES 6, MAPLE LEAFS 3: In Toronto, Josh Jooris scored twice and Teuvo Teravainen had a three-point night as Carolina beat Toronto.

Victor Rask scored midway through the second period to give Carolina the lead and Brock McGinn and Jooris added insurance goals in the third..

PANTHERS 8, DUCKS 3: In Sunrise, Fla., Radim Vrbata recorded his seventh career hat trick to lift Florida over Anaheim.

Evegenii Dadanov scored two goals, and Vincent Trocheck and Aleksander Barkov each had a goal and two assists for the Panthers. Owen Tippett, the youngest player in the NHL at 18, scored his first career goal.

PENGUINS 2, JETS 1 (OT): In Pittsburgh, Phil Kessel’s 300th career goal at 1:07 of overtime lifted Pittsburgh past Winnipeg.

Kessel, who also scored the overtime winner against Edmonton on Tuesday, became the 18th American-born player to reach 300 career goals and the second active behind Minnesota’s Zach Parise.

BRUINS 2, SHARKS 1: In Boston, Danton Heinen scored both goals and Anton Khudobin made 36 saves to lead Boston to a win over San Jose.

Joe Thornton scored for San Jose, which went 0-for-6 on the power play. The Sharks had one in the final two minutes after Brandon Carlo went off for slashing and got three shots while creating havoc in front of Khudobin but couldn’t capitalize.

KINGS 4, CANADIENS 0: In Montreal, Jonathan Quick stopped 40 shots for his 46th career shutout for LA over Montreal.

The Kings’ Adrian Kempe and Tyler Toffoli scored 11 seconds apart in the first period to get Los Angeles rolling.

OILERS 5, STARS 4: In Edmonton, Alberta, Matt Benning scored the tie-breaking goal with 2:27 remaining and Ryan Nugent Hopkins had two goals as Edmonton outscored Dallas. RANGERS 5, COYOTES 2: In New York, Pavel Buchnevich scored twice and added an assist, and rookie Boo Nieves had three assists as New York beat winless Arizona.

CANUCKS 6, CAPITALS 2: In Vancouver, British, Columbia, Sven Baertschi had two goals and an assist for Vancouver in its win over Washington.
