Aggressive Purdue crushes Valparaiso

Durr scores 25 points to lead Louisville women to easy win

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Vincent Edwards scored 15 points, Carson Edwards finished with 10 points and No. 21 Purdue dominated Valparaiso 80-50 on Thursday night.

With 8 minutes remaining in the first half, the Boilermake­rs held a 15-12 lead when Carsen Edwards’ fastbreak layup ignited a 21-4 run over the rest of the half.

Purdue (9-2) used aggressive defense and fast-paced offense, to force 11 turnovers in the first half that resulted in 11 points for the Boilermake­rs. Isaac Haas finished with 10 points for Purdue.

Joe Burton led the Crusaders (8-1) with 19 points. TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE 85, EASTERN NEW MEXICO 78: In Commerce, Texas, Devin Pullum scored 19 points as ENMU (3-6, 0-3 Lone Star Conference) fell to A&MCommerce (8-0, 3-0).

TARLETON STATE 85, WESTERN NEW MEXICO 59: In Stephenvil­le, Texas, Tarleton State (5-3, 2-1 Lone State Conference) hit 10 three-pointers to hold off Western New Mexico (2-7, 0-3).

Women

No. 4 LOUISVILLE 79, VANDERBILT 57: In Louisville, Ky., Asia Durr scored 25 points and Louisville overcame a first-half lull to beat Vanderbilt.

The Cardinals held the Commodores scoreless for more than a quarter, turning a 33-29 deficit with 4:38 left in the first half into a 24-point lead with 3:56 left in the third. Rachel Bell made a 3-pointer with 3:28 left in the third period to end the Commodores’ drought.

No. 10 WEST VIRGINIA 73, PITTSBURGH 52: In Morgantown, W.Va., Teana Muldrow had 20 points and 11 rebounds as West Virginia beat archrival Pittsburgh in the first matchup between the schools since 2012.

The Mountainee­rs cruised to the victory after opening the game on a 12-0 run.

No. 13 FLORIDA STATE 84, STETSON 39: In Tallahasse­e, Fla., AJ Alix hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points and Florida State cruised to a win over Stetson.

No. 14 DUKE 85, UNC GREENSBORO 54: In Durham, N.C., Erin Mathias scored a career-high 24 points, Lexie Brown was close to a quadruple-double and Duke rolled to a win over UNC Greensboro.

Brown had 20 points, nine assists, eight steals, which tied her career high, and seven rebounds.

No. 24 MICHIGAN 82, MARQUETTE 76: In Ann Arbor, Mich., Katelynn Flaherty scored seven of her 27 points in the final two minutes and Michigan took the lead in the third quarter before holding off Marquette.

No. 25 CALIFORNIA 89, SAN DIEGO 64: In Berkeley, Calif., Kristine Anigwe scored 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting, and California turned back San Diego for Lindsey Gottlieb’s 200th career win. TARLETON STATE 87, WESTERN NEW MEXICO 61: In Stephenvil­le, Texas, Takiyah Lopez scored 15 points for WNMU (0-8, 0-3 Lone Star Conference) in its loss to TSU (4-4, 1-2). TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE 64, EASTERN NEW MEXICO 57: In Commerce, Texas, Mikaehla Connor scored 20 points but ENMU (3-5, 0-3 Lone Star Conference) fell short in overtime against A&M-Commerce (5-4, 2-1).
