HARDER EDGE

Wolf King evolves to more aggressive sound on coming album

Waiting to get out on the road can be hectic — just ask Timothy Wilson.

Wilson is a member of the Bay Area-based metal band Wolf King.

“We’re at home right now,” he says in a recent phone interview. “The waiting process is tough. We’re ready to be out on the road.”

Wolf King is touring in support of its coming album, “Loyal to the Soil,” which will be released in January.

This will be the band’s first album on the Prosthetic Records label.

Wolf King’s most recent release is the 2016 EP “Into the Infinite.”

For this album, Wilson and crew went to Rapture Recordings in Hayward, Calif., to record with producer Cody Fuentes.

The band — which also consists of Jake Broughton, Connor White and Brian Mojica — completed the album in May.

“Working with Cody made the entire process smooth,” he says. “We’ve recorded with him one other time. He just clued into what we were going for.”

In writing the album, the members of Wolf King underwent plenty of changes.

Wilson says the band’s sound on the album is harder, more aggressive and more personal.

“The process for this album, me and Jake would write the songs,” he says. “The songs are taken from our lives and placed into a fictional place.”

Once the album was completed, the drummer quit and Wolf King had to replace him. The band also wanted to hire a bass player.

Enter drummer White and bassist Mojica.

The two joined the band and made Wolf King a quartet for the first time.

“It’s amazing to see this new life for the band,” Wilson says. “There’s a new energy with the new guys. They’ve jumped in and started to help us change our sound and direction. We haven’t written anything new yet, but it’s coming. The energy is amazing and it can be seen on stage.”

Wilson expects to get into the studio in early 2018.

He also says there will be a little break from touring.

“Brian is going back to school to finish,” he says. “This should give us enough time to write a new album.”
