Mother of Urlacher’s son files $125 million defamation suit against ex-Lobo
Custody case, shooting at heart of legal action
The mother of Brian Urlacher’s 12-year-old son has sued the former UNM football All-American and Chicago Bears All-Pro linebacker for $125 million, the website TMZ reported Wednesday.
According to the TMZ report — citing Illinois court records — Tyna Karageorge claims that Urlacher, in an attempt to secure full custody of his son Kennedy, has claimed Karageorge is responsible for the December 2016 fatal shooting of her former husband. Ryan Karageorge’s death was ruled a suicide.
Urlacher has not responded to an interview request, TMZ reported.
According to the report, Karageorge is suing for $25 million in compensatory damages and another $100 million in punitive damages.
According to news stories found online by the Journal, Urlacher and Karageorge, the former Tyna Robertson, have been battling for custody of their son essentially since his birth.
In 2005, Urlacher successfully sued to establish paternity.
In 2008, Urlacher and Karageorge — then Tyna Robertson — bickered in a Chicago Tribune story about which parent was more fit to raise their son.
In April 2017, a Chicago television station reported that Urlacher’s attorneys questioned in court Karageorge’s involvement in her former husband’s death. Urlacher had obtained temporary custody of the child earlier that year, approximately a month after Ryan Karageorge’s death, and continues to have custody.
