Judith Maybee Welde
On January 22, 2018, Judith Maybee Welde passed away peacefully with the love of her life by her side, holding her hand.
Judy was born in Fairport, NY to Frederick and Anna Maybee. As a child she enjoyed spending time with her cousins in upstate New York. During her senior year in high school her family moved to Holloman Air Force Base. She found herself in the enchanting high desert of New Mexico and was amazed by the stars. Not surprising that in a desert landscape Judy would find and fall in love with the sparkling night sky.
David was lucky enough to meet Judy while she was attending the University of New Mexico and working at New Mexico Central Credit Union as a file clerk. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Business Project Management at the University of Phoenix. Not surprising with Judy’s strong work ethic, determination and persistence she would one day earn the position of President and CEO of New Mexico Central Credit Union. She had great passion and loved her work. The ability to assist members with their many financial needs gave Judy great reward. Judy loved people and always made time for her credit union family. One of her proudest accomplishments was the design and construction of a distinctive credit union site. She enjoyed many years of active memberships in credit union organizations and it provided her with numerous friendships and incredible delight.
But Judy was not all business. She was a great downhill skier; even when tumbling down the slope she managed to show grace and elegance, and always landed on her feet. She could be found most nights after work at the gym satisfying her strong desire to continue to be healthy and fit. She shared this love of fitness with her beloved David.
David and Judith were married on October 14th, 1972 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They set out on their honeymoon and drove to Mazatlan, Mexico, which was the beginning of a spectacular adventure that continued for 45 years. Dave and Judy were all about sand, sun and water. They loved their vacations, whether on a cruise or at a beach resort. However, their favorite spot was always Carlsbad. When they put their toes in the sand there, they knew that Carlsbad was their home away from home, their forever vacation spot. Family was very important to Judy. She loved her parents; her sister, April, with whom she traveled the Southwest showing her ragdoll cats; her brothers, Tim, Mike and Fred; her sister-in-law, Janice; nieces and nephew Nancy, Bradley, Jillian; grandnephews Timmy, Tyler and grandniece Taylor. Her favorite title was "Auntie Mommy" which was given to her on the beach in Carlsbad by Boo and G which was an incredible honor and so well deserved!! Judy was blessed to have the Welde family in her life and she cherished all of them immensely. She had an amazing circle of family and friends that brought her so much joy and happiness.
Those closest to Judy knew that she enjoyed a party atmosphere, but in reality, her true happiness was found in their home that she designed and called her small resort where she could be found preparing one of her fabulous meals. Judy and Dave enjoyed many evenings watching the sunsets over the Sandia mountains, sitting by the fire pit enjoying the sparkling night sky that kept her in New Mexico. Following her retirement, she became active as a volunteer at the Presbyterian Kaseman Cancer Care Resource Center, which brought incredible contentment. Her personal battles with breast cancer gave her the strength and fortitude to assist so many other cancer patients in their own battle.
Judy’s Life Celebration will be Saturday, February 10, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH – Lomas, with a reception to be announced. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in the name of Judith Welde to the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundati on/The Cancer Patients Assistance Fund, the ALS Association or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
