Arizona edges Utah; Kansas keeps beating SEC teams

DURHAM, N.C. — Kyle Guy scored 17 points and hit two free throws with 6.1 seconds left, and No. 2 Virginia beat No. 4 Duke 65-63 on Saturday.

Ty Jerome had 13 points and a critical 3-pointer with 37.6 seconds to play, and Devon Hall finished with 14 points to help the Cavaliers (20-1, 9-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) win their 12th straight and their first at Cameron Indoor Stadium since 1995.

The nation’s stingiest defense held the top offense in Division I to more than 28 points below its average of 91.7 points.

Marvin Bagley III had 30 points and 14 rebounds, and Wendell Carter Jr. had 14 points and 15 rebounds for the Blue Devils (18-3, 6-3).

No. 5 KANSAS 79, TEXAS

A&M 68: In Lawrence, Kan., Svi Mykhailiuk poured in 24 points, Malik Newman added 15 and Kansas (17-4) won its fourth straight in the Big 12-SEC Challenge and 10th in a row over the Aggies (13-8).

N.C. STATE 95, No. 10 NORTH CAROLINA 91 (OT): In Chapel Hill, N.C., Allerik Freeman scored a career-high 29 points and hit seven of North Carolina State’s (15-7, 5-4 ACC) 15 3-pointers in the overtime victory. Luke Maye had 31 points and 12 rebounds for UNC (16-6, 5-4).

KENTUCKY 83, No. 7 WEST VIRGINIA 76: In Morgantown, W.Va., freshman forward Kevin Knox scored 19 of his seasonhigh 34 points in the second half and Kentucky (16-5) overcame a 17-point deficit to beat West Virginia (16-5) in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Kentucky made all 18 of its free throw attempts after halftime. Jevon Carter finished with 26 points for West Virginia (16-5).

No. 9 CINCINNATI 62, MEMPHIS 48: In Memphis, Tenn., Gary Clark had 18 points and nine rebounds, Jacob Evans added 14 points and Cincinnati (19-2, 8-0 American Athletic Conference) earned a 12th straight victory. Jeremiah Martin led the Tigers (13-8, 4-4) with 20 points.

No. 11 ARIZONA 74, UTAH 73: In Tucson, Dusan Ristic scored 23 points and made all three of his 3-point attempts to help Arizona (18-4, 8-1 Pac-12) hold off Utah. Sedrick Barefield led the Utes (12-9, 4-5) with 26 points.

ALABAMA 80, No. 12 OKLAHOMA 73: In Tuscaloosa, Ala., freshman Collin Sexton scored 18 points, Herbert Jones added 14 and Alabama (14-7) did a terrific defensive job on Oklahoma (15-5) freshman sensation Trae Young, who scored just 17 points on 6-of17 shooting.

No. 15 GONZAGA 82, SAN FRANCISCO 73: In Spokane, Wash., Killian Tillie and Johnathan Williams each scored 16 points as Gonzaga (19-4, 9-1 West Coast Conference) won its third straight.

Frankie Ferrari and Jordan Ratinho had 15 points apiece for San Francisco (12-11, 4-6).

No. 19 AUBURN 95, LSU 70: In Auburn, Ala., Mustapha Heron had 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting. Duop Reath was a force inside for LSU (12-8, 3-5) and finished with 18 points on 7-of12 shooting.

WYOMING 90, SAN JOSE STATE 86 (OT): In San Jose, Calif., Justin James scored 33 points, including nine in overtime that made the difference as Wyoming (14-7, 5-3 MWC) notched its third straight win. Ryan Welage scored a careerhigh 37 points to lead the Spartans (3-17, 0-9), who have lost nine straight and remain winless in conference.

UTAH STATE 65, FRESNO

STATE 62 : In Fresno, Calif., redshirt freshman Daron Henson scored a season-high 18 points, including an NBA-range 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds to play, and finished 6-of-7 shooting, all from 3-point range for Utah State (1211, 5-5 MWC). Deshon Taylor had 15 points for Fresno State (15-7, 5-4).

Utah State hit a season-high 13 3s on 27 attempts, committed just seven turnovers and scored 18 points off 15 Bulldogs turnovers.

BOISE STATE 70, AIR FORCE 64: At Air Force Academy, Colo., Lexus Williams scored 16 points and hit four of 12 3-pointers by the Broncos (17-4, 7-2 MWC) in their win over the Falcons (8-11, 2-5). Ryan Swan had a gamehigh 19 points for Air Force.

UNLV 88, SAN DIEGO STATE 78: In Las Vegas, Nev., Shakur Juiston and Brandon McCoy combined for 42 points on 19-of25 shooting and UNLV (15-6, 4-4) ended an 11-game losing streak against San Diego State. Jeremy Hemsley scored 19 points for the Aztecs (12-8, 4-5).

No. 9 UT PERMIAN BASIN 94, ENMU 77: In Odessa, Texas, Zach Parker scored a team-high 24 points for Eastern New Mexico (8-13, 3-8 Lone Star) in the loss to the nationally ranked Division II team. UTBP is 18-2, 10-1.

No. 11 WEST TEXAS A&M 99, WNMU 55: In Canyon, Texas, the nationally ranked Division II Buffs (19-2, 9-2 Lone Star) got 54 bench points in overwhelmi­ng Western New Mexico (3-17, 0-11).

NMHU 69, CHADRON STATE 67: In Las Vegas, N.M., Jordan Jones’ tie-breaking 3-pointer with 6:04 left gave the Cowboys (12-7, 7-6 RMAC) the lead for good over Chadron State (3-16, 1-12), which lost despite shooting 57 percent from the field.
