‘Indian New Deal’ topic of speaker
The Corrales Historical Society “Speaker Series” presents Stefanie Beninato, JD, PhD., on “The Indian New Deal in the Southwest” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Old San Ysidro Church, 966 Old Church Road.
She will speak on the 1934 Reorganization Act of Congress, whose intent was to reverse the traditional goal of assimilation of Native Americans into American society and to strengthen, encourage and perpetuate the tribes and their historic traditions and culture. Admission is free.
