Poet to read from her second collection of works

AT BOOKWORKS: Poet Tanaya Winder will read from “Why Storms Are Named After People and Bullets Remain Nameless” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The book is Winder’s second collection of poems.

Linda Niemann will discuss “Cosas Folk Art Travels in Mexico” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3.

Love and friendship, art and craft, language and culture are the subjects of this look back at one woman’s experiences in Mexico over a period of 20 years.

Mary Maurice will sign “Burtrum Lee: A Scientific Mystery” at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3.

Burtrum Lee Conner scrambles to her feet, sweat drizzling from her brow. She needs to escape, her captor is becoming frazzled, disoriented, scary. Is it true what Calvin Kramer said? Has her whole life been a farce? A deviant lie that her mom and dad, even her grandmother, have been telling her for the past 40 years? If she’s not the woman she believed she was, then who is she?

AT COLLECTED WORKS: Richard Bailey, president of Northern New Mexico College, will present to the Journey audience innovations that will perhaps determine the future of higher education in Northern New Mexico at 11 a.m. today.

Myra Krein will read from and sign “The Collected Letters of Alan Watts” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30. Krein is the founder of Pomegranate Studios, and her grandfather was Alan Watts. Watts’ daughters curated the book, which Myra will read from, as well as talk about her grandfather.

Annette McGivney will discuss “Pure Land: A True Story of Three Lives, Three Cultures and the Search for Heaven on Earth” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2. The book is the story of the most brutal murder in the history of the Grand Canyon and how McGivney’s quest to investigate the victim’s life and death wound up guiding the author through her own life-threatening crisis.
