Robert Francis Osborne
Robert Francis Osborne, age 86, passed away on January 28, 2018 surrounded by family at home in Albuquerque. He was born to Robert and Wallie Osborne in Seaford, NY. He was married to Barbara Rahe Osborne, the great love of his life, for 47 years. At 17, he enlisted in the Air Force. He was sent to UNM to become a weather forecaster. He served seven years in the United States and Europe as a squadron forecaster. He returned to UNM in order to get a BA and MA in history. Teaching world history was one of the pleasures of his life. Bob taught four years at Highland High School and 22 years at Sandia High School. With 14 teachers, he helped form the first teachers’ union in the state of New Mexico. With Barbara and Bob’s shared interest in the humanities, they explored Europe from Spain to Russia. Their large extended family of four generations gave them much pleasure.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; son, Cole Osborne; and granddaughter, Carla Crutchfield. He is survived by his children, Robert Osborne, Kathy Kittle, Donna Crutchfield, and Toby Osborne; grandchildren, Katrina Mares, Jason Osborne, Allan Kittle, Shaun Osborne, Candice Costley, and Brandon Osborne; and great-grandchildren, Brianna Alva, Ayla Osborne, Emma Costley, Tyler Costley, Jade Osborne and Glenn Mares.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 4, 2018, 12:30 p.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming. Friends and family may visit beginning at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will take place Monday, February 5, 2018, 11:15 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
