Floyd reverses field on Lobos
Elite JUCO RB ‘flips’ for ASU
As many would-be tacklers no doubt would attest, Isaiah Floyd is hard to catch.
For the New Mexico Lobos, it appears, he’s one that got away.
On Wednesday, less than 48 hours after having announced his commitment to UNM, the prolific junior-college running back said via social media that he had “decommitted.”
Later on Wednesday, he announced his commitment to Arizona State.
Regarding UNM, he said that after discussing the matter with his parents and his coach at City College of San Francisco, he had concluded that “I was just rushing into the process and I wanted to explore my options.”
Nonetheless, Floyd had nothing but compliments for UNM.
“Amazing facility and campus, great coaching staff,” he wrote. “Great program, just weighing my options out.”
Last fall at CCSF, Floyd rushed for 1,797 yards — leading all California junior-college rushers — scored 21 touchdowns and averaged 7.6 yards per carry.
He made an official recruiting visit to UNM last weekend, then announced his decision to commit after a Monday home visit from Lobos wide receivers coach Scott Baumgartner and new offensive coordinator Calvin Magee.
With Floyd’s withdrawal, UNM has 15 signings or commitments toward its 2018 recruiting class.
Of those, 14 — 12 juniorcollege players and two high school players — already have signed binding letters of intent.
Trae Hall, a dualthreat quarterback from Henderson (Texas) High School, announced his commitment to UNM on Monday.
