No. 4 Michigan State survives scare from Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Miles Bridges had 25 points and a steal with 5 seconds left as fourthrank­ed Michigan State rallied past Iowa 96-93 on Tuesday night for its seventh straight win.

Nick Ward added 17 points for the Spartans (23-3, 11-2 Big Ten). But they got a scare from the Hawkeyes in what was supposed to be a tune-up for Saturday’s home game vs. No. 3 Purdue.

After trailing by as many as eight points, Bridges hit a pair of free throws to give Michigan State a 92-91 lead with 1:02 left. He hit two more from the line to make it a three-point game.

Tyler Cook scored 26 points for Iowa (12-14, 3-10).

No. 5 XAVIER 98, BUTLER 93 (OT):

In Indianapol­is, Trevon Bluiett scored 17 of his 26 points in the final 14½ minutes of regulation and overtime to help Xavier beat Butler.

Kerem Kanter added 22 points, including the go-ahead basket with 2:56 left in overtime, which started the decisive 5-0 run. The Musketeers (22-3, 10-2 Big East) have won seven straight overall and three in a row in the series.

Kelan Martin had 34 points to lead the Bulldogs (17-8, 7-5).

No. 6 CINCINNATI 77, CENTRAL FLA. 40:

In Highland Heights, Ky., Kyle Washington scored 13 points as Cincinnati beat Central Florida for its 15th straight win.

The Bearcats (22-2, 11-0 American Athletic) extended the nation’s longest active homecourt winning streak to 39 games. UCF (14-9, 5-6) was 0-for14 beyond the arc overall.

No. 10 KANSAS 71, TCU 64:

In Lawrence, Kan., Devonte’ Graham scored 24 points as Kansas beat TCU.

The Jayhawks (19-5, 8-3 Big 12) have struggled this season to dominate at home as they traditiona­lly have, but were able to avoid dropping two straight in Allen Fieldhouse thanks to a grind-it-out finish. Kouat Noi led the way for the Horned Frogs (16-8, 4-7).

No. 15 TENNESSEE 61, No. 24 KENTUCKY 59:

In Lexington, Ky., Lamonte Turner scored 16 points, including a clutch 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining, and Admiral Schofield followed with a dunk as Tennessee edged Kentucky.

The Vols (18-5, 8-3 SEC) came away with just their fifth Rupp Arena victory and first since 2006 while handing the Wildcats (17-7, 6-5)..

NORTHWESTE­RN 61, No. 20 MICHIGAN 52 :

In Rosemont, Ill., Bryant McIntosh tied a season high with 24 points as Northweste­rn beat Michigan.

McIntosh scored 14 in the second half to help the Wildcats (1510, 6-6 Big Ten). Moe Wagner led the Wolverines (19-7, 8-5) with 20 points and nine rebounds.

No. 22 WICHITA STATE 85, MEMPHIS 65:

In Memphis, Tenn., Austin Reaves had 22 points as Wichita State (18-5, 8-3 American Athletic Conference) beat Memphis (14-10, 5-6).

AIR FORCE 78, COLO. STATE 73:

In Colorado Springs, Sid Tomes hit six 3-pointers to finish with 18 points to lead Air Force past Colorado State.

The win halted a three-game skid for AFA (9-13, 3-7 MWC) and extended tje Rams’ losing streak to seven. CSU is 10-16, 3-10.

FRESNO STATE 79, SAN DIEGO STATE 61:

In Fresno, Calif., Jaron Hopkins scored 20 points to lead Fresno State (17-8, 7-5 MWC) past San Diego State (13-9, 5-6).

NM HIGHLANDS 83, CSUPUEBLO 81:

In Las Vegas, N.M., the Cowboys’ Mike Nwabuzor scored on a layup with 18 seconds left to give Highlands an 82-81 lead en route to a win over CSU-P (10-13, 7-10 RMAC).

Jacob Holland added 17 points for NMHU (13-9, 8-8).

WESTERN NM 84, EASTERN NM 80:

In Silver City, the Mustangs (4-19, 1-13 RMAC) built a 13-point second-half lead and hung on vs. ENMU (10-13, 5-9).

Jordan Enriquez had 25 points to lead Western. Lamarquis Thompson had 18 for Eastern New Mexico.

Women WESTERN NM 60, EASTERN NM 59:

In Silver City, the Mustangs won their first game of the year behind Melody McLaughlin, who had 12 points and a team-high four steals.

Western (1-22, 1-14 Lone Star) weathered a frenzied finish in which Eastern (13-9, 9-6) missed three FG tries in the final 14 seconds, including one at the buzzer by Daeshi McCants, who led the Greyhounds with 20 points.

CSU-PUEBLO 73, NM HIGHLANDS 47:

In Las Vegas, N.M., Ari Baca had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Cowgirls (4-17, 2-14 RMAC) in their loss to CSU-P (17-6, 15-2).

James Madison has postponed men’s basketball games scheduled for Thursday at home vs. North Carolina-Wilmington and Saturday at Elon over fears of a possible mumps outbreak in the program.
