Lobos rally but fall to Cal Poly in extra innings

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly’s first walk-off win of the 2018 baseball season came courtesy of a wild pitch.

Nick Meyer and Colby Barrick singled with one one in the 10th inning and Meyer scored on a wild pitch as the Mustangs snapped a threegame losing streak with a 5-4 victory over New Mexico on a rainy Monday night inside Baggett Stadium.

Cal Poly improved to 7-10 with the win while New Mexico, a 3-1 winner in 10 innings over the Mustangs three weeks ago in Surprise, Arizona, fell to 6-9-1.

Cal Poly led all the way until the ninth inning when New Mexico scored on a wild pitch with two outs, tying the game at 4-4.

The loss went to New Mexico closer Christian Tripp (1-1).

New Mexico, which turned four double plays, collected 10 hits, including three singles by Brayden Merritt and two by Richard Ware.

The game was delayed 33 minutes by rain with Cal Poly batting in the bottom of the eighth inning.
