First Brain Freeze Ice Cream Festival set for Albuquerque this summer.

Albuquerque’s first Brain Freeze Ice Cream Festival is set for June 9 and 10 at Balloon Fiesta Park and naturally features scoop stations serving up 21 flavors of Blue Bell premium ice cream.

Billed as the “coolest party of the summer,” the event will help raise funds for the Rio Grande Down Syndrome Network.

There will be live music, food trucks, games and foam parties.

Admission is $5 a head — 3 and under are fee — and includes all entertainment such as games, bouncers, face-painting and foam parties.

Throughout the festival — open from noon to 6 p.m. both days — visitors can buy tokens to be exchanged at any ice cream station for scoops, sundaes, toppings, or root beer floats.

Tokens will be sold as four for $10, 10 for $20 or 20 for $30. One token will get you a single scoop of ice cream in a cone or cup, with additional toppings and root beer floats costing one to two tokens.

Organizers said that outside ice cream vendors may have different pricing structures, but all accept tokens.

“The mission of the Brain Freeze Ice Cream Festival, other than filling people with cool, cold ice cream in the summertime, is to support organizations that provide aid and assistance to the community of families and individuals whose lives have been impacted by a disability, a special need, or a mental illness,” according to festival organizers with Blue River Productions.
