Aric Chase Damm is driving through Memphis, Tenn.

It’s going to be one of the more than 30 stops on the latest leg of the “Locked & Loaded” tour.

“It will be a lot of fun,” he says in a recent phone interview. “When we get to Santa Fe, the tour will be rolling just fine.”

Damm is the vocalist for the California-based rock band The Brevet.

He is joined by David Aguiar and John Kingsley in the band.

The trio finished up work on its next album, which is scheduled for release in the fall. The first single, “Locked & Loaded,” has been released.

“It’s completed and finished,” Damm says of the album. “We are in the process of planning its release out.”

The album was recorded in the band’s studio, in Westminster, Calif., where the band also recorded its first two albums, “Battle of the Heart” and “American Novel.”

The sophomore record help propel the band into mainstream, with the use of many of its songs in TV and film.

Some of The Brevet’s songs were used in movies such as “An Open Secret,” “The Good Lie,” and “Ashby,” as well as on TV shows such as “Growing up Fisher,” “NCIS: New Orleans,” “90210,” and “American Idol.”

Damm is excited about the music on the next album.

“It’s an evolution and maturity of the band,” he says. “We’ve grown in our personal lives as well as writers. We’re all satisfied and happy with what has turned out.”

The Brevet’s show on Thursday, May 31, in Santa Fe will mark the band’s first time playing in New Mexico.

Damm says the band will treat the show like any other.

“Going into new markets is an interesting thing,” he says. “We’re hoping people know who we are. One thing is for certain: The show will have the same amount of energy as our other shows. It’s the only way we know how to perform. We’re going into this show to impress other people.”

With the first single out, Damm says, it represents a band that is free to be as creative as it wants, driving its music in a wholly new direction.

“(It’s) good transition song,” he says. “We’re writing in a way we want to write now. I’m not trying to follow trends; I just want to write from my heart.”
