State offers perk to all active-duty personnel, their families
Free admission available for active-duty military members and their families through summer to state museums and historic sites.
A nice perk is now available through the summer for all active duty military and their families: free admission to state museums and historic sites around New Mexico.
The eight state-run museums and historic sites under the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs have joined the 2018 launch of Blue Star Museums.
It is an annual collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, Department of Defense and more than 2,000 museums across the U.S. offering free admission to active-duty military, including National Guard and Reserve and their families, from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2018.
A list of participating museums nationwide is available at arts. gov/bluestarmuseums.
“The Blue Star Museums honors the sacrifices of our military men and women and their families, by offering fun, free activity during the summer months,” DCA Secretary Veronica Gonzales said in a statement.
“The program is also a wonderful way for service member families to connect to their new communities, and it can provide a meaningful way for families to reconnect after deployment.”
Participating New Mexico DCA institutions include:
Alamogordo: New Mexico Museum of Space History.
Albuquerque: New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum.
Jemez Springs: Jemez Historic Site.
Las Cruces: New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum.
Lincoln County: The Lincoln Historic Site.
Santa Fe: New Mexico History Museum/Palace of the Governors, New Mexico Museum of Art, Museum of International Folk Art and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture.
