SPORTS SPEAK UP!

-

LOBO STATISTICIAN

− we come from all corners of the ABQ Metro. I drive 70 miles round trip to see my beloved Lobos play. Unlike most people that live in the Q who don’t care about sports, us devoted fans support our favorite sports teams to the fullest; fanatically and financially. You should try it sometime. — Manny G. from the Hub City

EACH WEEK

seems to bring a new set of problems to UNM’s athletic department from the previous administrator’s actions, or lack thereof, with investigations, audits and now Title IX issues along with consultants getting involved. Having President Garnett Stokes and AD Eddie Nuñez allocating most of their time and resources to correct the problems, the various athletic programs and the great fans are getting shortchanged. Less than a month until the sports to be cut are identified? This is one big mess. Welcome to Lobo Town President Stokes and AD Nuñez. — JJ

YOUR TITLE IX

analysis and report doesn’t make any sense. If you eliminate the number of men in football from the analysis women outnumber men 247 to 207. I would be interested in a comparison with major schools such as Alabama, Michigan, Penn State etc. I doubt seriously if there are any of them with a majority of women under sports scholarship in their programs. — Larry of Corrales

BILL RUSSELL

played 13 years in the NBA and won 11 league championships, received 12 AllStar nods, and was league MVP five times. — Dave-Old enough to remember greatness

LOBO FAN,

the UNM football program has NO CHANCE of ever competing at the national level in D1 football. It’s time to scrap the football program and follow the model of Georgetown, Butler, Gonzaga and St Mary’s, who excel at basketball without a D1 program. Put the money into basketball, where the Lobos would at least have a chance of occasionally competing at the national level. — Uptown Ed

LOBO FOOTBALL

is not worthy to play in the Mountain West nor the Big Sky nor the WAC. They are somewhat more deserving to play in a division II school and that is pushing it. — Richard Holder
