Monica Perea told detectives she and her wife, Alisha Terrazas, were at home Sunday morning when Terrazas’ sister and friend came over, saying they had been beaten up.

So, Perea said, the four women and a male friend armed themselves with a shotgun and a BB gun and went to confront the man responsible and collect Terrazas’ sister’s personal belongings. They drove a silver Dodge Durango to his Northeast Albuquerque apartment.

By 8 a.m. police say Terra- zas had shot that man, Ruben Edwards, in the head, critically injuring him. It is unclear what relationship he had with the women or Terrazas’ sister.

Neither Gilbert Gallegos nor Simon Drobik, spokesmen for the Albuquerque Police Department, responded to questions asking for Edwards’ condition.

Terrazas, 26, was arrested Tuesday evening. She faces charges of attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy. Perea, 36, was booked into the county jail early Tuesday morning and is charged with attempt to commit murder, conspiracy and tampering with evidence.

On Sunday, around 7:40 a.m. officers were called to an apartment complex on the 400 block of Wisconsin NE, near Copper and Wyoming. When they got there they found Edwards leaning against a vehicle with a blanket being held to the gunshot wound in his head. Detectives say he was shot in the back of the head and shoulder.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, video surveillance of the outside of the apartment complex captured how the shooting unfolded. Detectives said they could see Edwards fighting with a man on the top level of the complex and three women standing nearby – one of whom was trying to break up the fight while Terrazas and Perea pointed their guns at Edwards.

Then, detectives say, the video shows Edwards walking through the parking lot with Terrazas, exchanging words.

“Alisha (Terrazas) approached Ruben (Edwards) from behind with the shotgun and moved it in a downward direction toward Ruben,” the detective wrote in the complaint. “At that point, the gun appeared to discharge and Ruben fell forward into the Durango. The Durango then left the parking lot, causing Ruben to fall out of it and onto the ground.”
