3 people released in Sun Village fatal shooting
DA to review case to determine if it was justifiable homicide
Detectives released three people detained in connection with a Tuesday night shooting at the Sun Village Apartments and are not looking for any other suspects, according to police.
Albuquerque police spokesman Simon Drobik said the case will go to the District Attorney’s Office to determine if anyone will be prosecuted.
A spokesman for the 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office said they will review the case to see if it will be ruled a justifiable homicide.
There have been three justifiable homicides so far this year.
Officers responded to the shooting Tuesday night at the complex, at 801 Locust NE, where they found a man shot to death inside an apartment.
“Officers located three subjects who admitted being present during the shooting,” Drobik said. “A firearm was located along with several projectiles and casings.”
He said detectives also executed a search warrant and sealed two vehicles during their investigation.
Drobik did not identify the person shot, any of those detained or say what led to the shooting.
Two neighbors said they were at the Sun Village dog park when officers came into the adjacent courtyard and knocked loudly on an apartment door before battering it down and going inside. Crime scene vans and several police vehicles dotted the parking lot while yellow tape roped off a courtyard on the northwest side of the apartment complex.
Officers talked to witnesses in the area, while neighbors gathered nearby waiting to be allowed into their apartments.
