Isotopes reading event a home run for NM children
THE ALBUQUERQUE Isotopes have long encouraged children to read with their Club Read promotion partnering with Dion’s. Now they have ramped up the idea with a Storybook Night on May 18. Their creative and important celebration of reading was appropriate for the many families with children attending the game. I went with our grandchildren. Staff wore storybook costumes, music in the park was related to books. Children’s book quizzes brightened the scoreboard and Dr Seuss’s Truffula trees decorated the promenade. Best of all, the Isotopes gave a free ticket to a future game to each person donating a book for the Read to Me program.
And the game was enjoyed by all even if we didn’t win this time. Our city needs proficient readers, and the Isotopes just hit a home run.
