Academy hires a pair of new coaches
Albuquerque Academy filled a pair of coaching vacancies Wednesday.
Jake Herrin, who resigned earlier this year at Valencia High School, will take over the Chargers’ boys basketball program.
Herrin, 32, is a Los Lunas High graduate who spent five seasons as an assistant to Greg Brown at Volcano Vista before he left for Valencia. He was the Jaguars’ head coach for three seasons. Josh Mattox was hired to replace Herrin at Valencia.
Chris Alexander, himself a former Charger athlete, is Academy’s new baseball coach. Andy Williams resigned that position last month after seven seasons, which included a state championship in 2015.
