Charity event draws 300
The 38th annual Southwest Albuquerque Golf Tournament, a three-day charity event, at Sandia Golf Club, concluded on Wednesday.
The tournament featured close to 300 participants from Southwest Airlines and vendors in the Dallas area. Individual competition format took place on Monday, followed by scramble play Tuesday and Wednesday.
A banquet along with auctions highlighted the event that benefits The Ronald McDonald House and New Mexico Kids Matter. Last year, the tournament raised $102,000 — $38,000 of which went to New Mexico Kids Matter, said Gregg Brown, the outgoing chairman of the event.
Brown, who retired in February, said he remembered when the tournament first began in 1980, when there was just 12 people competing.
“We get to play golf and do something good for the kids and families,” said Mike Beeghly, the new chairman.
