AROUND THE STATE

SEVEN SPRINGS BROOD POND: The Kids Fishing Pond closed to all fishing Wednesday due to extreme fire danger. MONASTERY LAKE: The lake closed to all fishing Wednesday due to extreme fire danger.

HERON LAKE: Fishing from shore remains slow, with the most success coming between the dam and boat dock at Ridge Rock Campground. Fishing from boats also remains slow, with most anglers taking one or two fish per day trolling. The exceptions were Todd and Christy Tucker of Roswell, who caught 19 fish over two days, only one of them a kokanee salmon. The rest were rainbow trout. The Tuckers kept 12, ranging from 12 to 19½ inches, and released the rest. Most were caught on lures at a depth of 12 to 25 feet, with the best success on a quarter-ounce yellow Panther Martin with red dots. Boat fishing is best around the dam. Don Wolfley, Stone House Lodge

SHADY LAKES: We restocked trout ponds with 16- to 18-inch rainbow trout. The rainbow trout are averaging 10 to 12 inches, but much larger trout are biting. Catch-and-release largemouth bass and bluegill activity is strong. Bass are ranging 2½ to 4½ pounds, but 6½-pound bass can be seen from the lake banks. Bass and bluegill are biting on plastics and top-water lures.
