SPORTS SPEAK UP!

- sportsspeakup@abqjournal.com

THE NFL and their billionaire owners could have put the national anthem kneeling issue behind them by just keeping all of the players in the locker room, as the NCAA does, until the singing of the anthem is over. It goes to show that money doesn’t necessarily equate to common sense. Hundreds of thousands of our Armed Forces have been killed, too many limbs severed, too much blood shed along with the toll that mental anguish has taken to allow this nonsense to continue. Hopefully this country will make college football the new, exclusive “America’s Game.” — NCAA FB Fan

I HEAR RUDY C cry and whine everyday on sports talk radio and I also see him write gibberish in Sports Speak Up! occasionally. I have concluded he is the worst and most annoying sports fan in Albuquerque. I propose to buy UNM football season tickets if Rudy C agrees to stop contributing to sports talk and (Speak Up!). — Billy Yazzie

CONCERNING (Geoff Grammer’s) article in the Journal on Saturday; there was also Mike Lucero (redhead) from Santa Fe. — Lobo4ever 62

Geoff’s story noted that the Lobos are recruiting a player from Santa Fe High, which has not producted a UNM men’s basketball player since the Pit opened in 1966. Mike Lucero played from 1961-64, per UNM records. — Randy, Journal

IT IS CLEAR the lowest Sports Knowledge GPA in the city comes from the Uptown Area. — JRM-Corrales

WITH THE recent release of GPAs for UNM athletics, it’s true that Cs get degrees. And (for) the two flagship sports that are well funded and supported by UNM (football and men’s basketball), it’s evident that their investment to being a “student” athlete is “below average.” Maybe it’s time we support more of women’s sports. — Manny G. from the Hub City
