John P. Reynolds
John Paul (Jack) Reynolds found peace on June 10,
2018 at the age of
94. In the hours before his peaceful passing at home, Jack listened to the sharing of beautiful memories with his three children, James, Kathryn, and John
Jr. and Jack’s wife of the last 48 years, Jetta.
Jack was born on Feb. 16, 1924 in New York City to Sidney Algernon and May (Fenneman) Reynolds. He was a veteran of WWII and returned to graduate from Rutgers University with a Master’s Degree in English. Then, he moved, with his young family, to Long Island, NY., where he worked for McGraw Hill Publishing as a technical editor. Before settling in Chappaqua, NY., Jack ventured to the West Indies for a few years where he managed a night club and his kids attended school.
Upon returning to NY, Jack began a career in the marketing/PR business in Ossining, NY. There, he met Jetta and, shortly afterward, they were married. They moved to Westport, CT. where they started a business of retail and wholesale beverages. The Soda Man thrived for 20 years. Ten years later, once Jetta had retired, they moved to Albuquerque, NM.
Jack was always a kind, ethical, gentle and thoughtful husband, father, and friend. He loved his country, was a proud veteran and a true patriot. He volunteered for many elections, worked with an amateur theatre group doing lighting, had a quick wit, and was an accomplished tennis player. A member of the Unitarian Church in Westport, and then served on the board and various committees at ABQ First Unitarian Church.
Jack is survived by his wife, Jetta, his three children, James, Kathryn, and John Jr. and Jack’s brother, Alan Reynolds as well as Alan’s children, Roy and Merrill and Alan’s companion Judy Powell.
Special appreciation to everyone at the Abq. VA Medical Center for their years of expert caring for Jack, and to Hospice of NM team who cared so lovingly for Jack and his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Albuquerque First Unitarian Church on Sunday August 5th, 2018 at 3 p.m.. If you would like to make a donation in Jack’s memory, he supported: First Unitarian-Abq., or ACLU-NM.org/give
