SPORTS SPEAK UP!

-

FIFA WORLD CUP: Congratulations to the players and coaches representing Columbia and Poland. The coaches and players all stand, salute and sing their National Anthem before the game begins. Hope our NFL players, that take a knee, learn from these athletes what it means to respect their flag and country. No kneeling just a demonstration of Patriotism. Proud to be an American. — Mike Torrez I’M ONE OF the 13% that voted to end Lobo football. — Larry the VOL

ON MAY 12, Volcano Vista lost to Las Cruces twice for the Class 6A softball state championship. A VV pitcher was called for 5 illegal pitches for supposedly lifting her trail leg coming off the rubber (it hadn’t been called all season). There was a question as to whether or not it was a Las Cruces umpire who made those calls. (Can’t the NMAA get some neutral umpires for a state championship game?) Another VV player then kicked dirt on an umpire and was ejected. Instead of sweeping dirt under the rug, how about some answers from the NMAA as to how they addressed these issues? — Northern NM Sports Fan

GLAD TO SEE that Sports Speak Up! has apparently been miraculously revived. If the past two weeks are any indication, it should make a full recovery. There’s never a shortage of opinions from the UNM fan base and others ... of which a local sports radio talk show host from another state once said that he’s never seen anything like it. There’s probably a lot of truth to that as a university such as San Jose State might be able to do away with their entire athletic department without anyone in that area blinking an eye. — Joseph
