APD arrest man who threatened suicide
Albuquerque Police Department officers took a man into custody after they say he doused himself with gasoline and made suicidal statements Monday afternoon.
Officer Simon Drobik said the man would be taken to a hospital psychiatric center for evaluation.
He said that around 10:20 a.m. police were called to a business on Princeton NE near Comanche for reports of a man who was trespassing. An arriving officer found a man in a car who wouldn’t provide his registration and insurance information.
“When the officer made his approach back to the vehicle the individual poured gasoline on top of himself — at least a one-gallon container...,” Drobik said. The officer called for backup and placed a spike belt in front of the vehicle. Drobik said the man drove over the spikes and into the back of the business where he remained for several hours, yelling at officers and flicking his lighter.
