World-famous modern dance company Pilobolus will be stopping in New Mexico this week as part of Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s Summer season. The East Coast company, founded at Dartmouth in the 1970s, has long been known for its highly physical and innovative style, performed at the 2007 Academy Awards and won an Emmy 10 years earlier for a show at the John F. Kennedy Center. In Santa Fe, the dancers will offer four pieces from the company’s repertoire over the past four decades: “Symbiosis,” a romantic duet; “Rushes,” a quirky, abstract-style group number; “Branches,” a newer piece that explores the “competition” between animals; and “Gnomen,” described by ASFB as “showcasing classic Pilobolus feats of strength.” The troupe will perform at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, 211 W. San Francisco St., Tuesday at 8 p.m. As of earlier this week, there were still a few tickets left. Meow Wolf is offering a blast from the past this week with an all-ages summer camp teaching the art of old-school graffiti. The classes will provide a crash course in the street art, promising training on perspective, optical illusions and other important techniques consistent with how it was done back in the ’70s and ’80s. The camp, with a fee of $100 for courses Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, will be taught by local art teacher Roni Rohr. Classes will be at Meow Wolf, 1352 Rufina Circle, from 9 a.m. to noon. BENEFIT CONCERT:
Proceeds from a concert at the Railyard Park will benefit the Santa Fe Dreamers Project. Though the event is free, donations will be accepted at “Stand and Rock 4 Immigrants,” a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services for the immigrant community. The featured acts include local Latin band Nosotros; Impulse Groove Foundation, an R&B group headed by Public Enemy bassist Brian Hardgroove; and Texas-based rocker Zay Santos. Other local musicians on the bill are John Kurzweg, best known for his work with Creed on its early albums; Felecia Ford; and Rusty Crutcher. “Stand and Rock 4 Immigrants” is Sunday, 6:30-9 p.m.
