April 15, 1933 July 9, 2018 Gloria Frances Sanchez y Sanchez, age 85, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Presbyteri­an Rust Medical Center, Rio Rancho, NM of natural causes.

Gloria was a life-long resident of Santa Fe, NM. She was born in Wagon Mound (Ocate), NM to Cristobal and Estella Sanchez on April 15, 1933. She was the first born of their 12 children. The family soon relocated to Santa Fe to live and raise their children on Del Norte Lane. Being a busy household, Gloria helped her family in whatever way she could. Her maternal grandparen­ts, Jose and Beneriza Medina, lived across the street from them. Her paternal grandfathe­r, Pedro O. Sanchez died young and her grandmothe­r, Philomena Sanchez lived in Las Vegas, NM.

Gloria was the daughter of a large family; descendant­s of the first Spanish settlers to New Mexico. She married into another separate early Spanish settlement family from the Tome, Belen, NM area. On 10/22/55 she married Arthur G. Sanchez (Art) (former Santa Fe City Councilman). They were married for 52 years until his passing on 4/27/08. They raised four children who all graduated from St. Michael’s High School in Santa Fe: Arthur William, Jr. (Artie)(deceased), Clifford Michael, Shirley Ann, David John Sanchez.

She is survived by her 11 sisters and brothers and their extended families: Maryann Thibodeau, Christine Baca, Cris Sanchez, Connie Montoya, Theresa Valdez, Peggy Vigil, Angela Roybal, Leo Sanchez, Patrycia (Pat) Sanchez, Anthony Sanchez, Edward. Gloria is survived by her children and their extended families: Clifford (Kathy) Sanchez, Jordan, Ava Grace Sanchez; Lucas (Courtney) Sanchez; Shirley A. Gonzales (Dr. David Anthony), David A. Gonzales II; David John (Monique) Sanchez.

She is also survived by many relatives and their families and friends of the family. We would like to thank all those who cared for her during these difficult last years of her life. You know who you are, and you have been a great blessing for us. A special thank you to her son and daughter-in-law, David John and Monique who literally changed their lives to make sure her needs were met by relocating to Albuquerqu­e from Durango, Colorado while she lived in Assisted Living. Thank you!

Jesus, I trust in You. Life is difficult, handle with prayer! Rest In Peace, Mom.

Visitation and Rosary will be Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
