CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Ben Allen, 10, of Albuquerque caught a 2-pound and a 1-pound, 9-ounce white bass and caught and released three others Saturday at Elephant Butte Lake. He was fishing during a C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation event and was using a white crank bait.

Jacob Salazar, 15, of Rio Rancho caught a 26-inch, 9-pound channel catfish Sunday on the Rio Grande. He was fishing in the Corrales area and using Rotten Shad dip bait.

AROUND THE STATE

HERON LAKE: Fishing has been slow to slowest. A few rainbow trout have been caught from shore by the Ridge Rock boat ramp. Bait used was PowerBait. No one has been out trolling as all three boat ramps are out of the water. Water is still being released at 500 cfs. Snagging season at Heron does not begin until Nov. 9. I can’t say that the chance of catching a lot of salmon is good, but there’s a lot more to salmon snaagging than catching fish. Don Wolfley, Stonehouse Lodge

SHADY LAKES: Trout are biting on night crawler worms, salmon eggs and PowerBait. Catch-and-release large mouth bass and bluegill are biting on plastics and top-water lures.
