ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

-

Come to Española Humane to meet a couple of dogs. There’s 10-yearold Meg, a sweet lap dog that came to the shelter as a stray and in the most unfortunate circumstances. She was matted, dirty and in a lot of pain. Then shelter staff discovered she was suffering from a huge bladder stone. The shelter’s medical team removed the bladder stone and, with the proper diet, we feel confident this issue can be resolved. Upon examination, the shelter’s vets discovered she has a grade 4 heart murmur that may affect the length of her life. This darling girl has some severe medical issues, but they don’t compare to the size of her character. She needs a home that can love her for whatever time she has left in this world. Because of her health, this sweet girl is considered a hospice adoption and should go to a home that is emotionally and financially prepared to give her the best end of life she can have.

Also meet Ruben, a sweet pup who has been working so hard to be comfortable with humans after growing up in a very isolated area with little human activity. A good samaritan was able to capture a litter of puppies and bring them to our care a few weeks ago. Ruben was skinny, scared and covered in ticks. As if that wasn’t enough, he also had internal parasites. We’ve medically treated every condition, and spent lots of time sitting with him and showing him humans are full of love. Although he has made great strides in improving behaviorally, he still needs a home that is willing to continue to work with him. If you think you could be Ruben’s hero, please stop by and meet him.

These two and many others may be adopted daily from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at Española Humane, 108 Hamm Parkway in Española. 505-753-8662. Fees are waived for adult cats through the end of October. To see more adoptable pets, log on to www.evalleyshelter.org or www.petango.com.
