- BY MEGAN BENNETT JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

No surprise here; Meow Wolf is getting into the Halloween spirit with a set of concerts and events as its “House of Halloween” series wraps up.

Tonight, from 9 p.m.-2 a.m.. there’s the “Melt Shake Halloween” featuring beats from electronic musician Minnesota, as well as a costume contest with a $500 grand prize; $100 will be awarded to three runners-up. Another costume contest will be held Saturday starting at 9 p.m. — this time with a $300 grand prize — and guests will be entertained by EDM artists Wolf + Lamb, Job Jobse and many more. The final dance party and costume contest is Halloween night from 7-11:30 p.m., featuring trippy music collective Golden Dawn Arkestra.

On select days, including Halloween, “The House of Eternal Return” will feature new characters throughout the Multiverse to celebrate the holiday. Check them out today from 4-7 p.m., Saturday from 2-5 p.m. and Oct. 31 from 4-7 p.m. Free Halloween crafting sessions will also continue Saturday and Sunday in the Learning Center during its open studio hours (noon-5 p.m.). All of these activities are at “The House of Eternal Return,” 1352 Rufina Circle. Check meowwolf.com for ticket prices.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS:

Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos this weekend at Santa Fe’s Museum of International Folk Art. In what’s become one of the museum’s most popular events, guests can come dressed as calacas — or skeletons — listen to traditional music, eat Mexican snacks and add items to honor their loved ones to community altars. There will also be stations for face painting, decorating sugar skulls and making paper altars. The celebration is Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at MOIFA, 706 Camino Lejo. Admission to the museum is free during the event.

CLASSIC HORROR:

The Lensic Performing Arts Center will hold a free screening of a classic horror flick on Halloween night.

The original 1956 version of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” starring Larry Gates, Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter, follows a California town infiltrated by human-looking aliens. The outsiders are nicknamed “pod people” for where they come from and their lack of emotion. The screening is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Lensic, 211 W. San Francisco St.

Hardcore Halloween lovers can also go to the Lensic’s screening of the recorded National Theatre performance of “Frankenstein” on Oct. 29. The London show stars Benedict Cumberbatch of “Sherlock” fame as Frankenstein’s monster and Jonny Lee Miller from CBS’ “Elementary” as the namesake scientist. “National Theatre Live in HD: Frankenstein” is Monday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22. Tickets for both screenings are available online at ticketssantafe.org, by phone at 505-988-1234 or at the Lensic Box Office.
