Old Town merchants welcome trick-or-treaters on Halloween

Take your little ghosts and goblins to Old Town for some free Halloween fun.

A number of Old Town businesses will be handing out candy to trick-or-treating children from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. Leashed pets also are welcome to dress up and join in on the fun.

“We’re looking at a fun family, safe place to trickor-treat and enjoy the holiday,” said Bree Ortiz, events and operations manager for the city of Albuquerqu­e.

Trick-or-treaters will want to visit Steve’s

Ice Cream & Java. The business will be handing out small ice cream cones to eventgoers. A stop at Mama’s Minerals is also worthwile. The store will be handing out goodie bags.

“A lot of stores have open trick-or-treat,” Ortiz said. “It’s not too late (in the day). It’s still daylight out.”

Rock 101 New Mexico Music Academy will provide entertainm­ent and perform at the Old Town Gazebo.

“They are empowering youth through music,” Ortiz said. “It is kind of their mission. It’s a really cool music academy.”

Rock 101 offers a yearround music program geared toward all skill levels. It offers lessons on guitar, bass, drums, piano, vocals, ukulele, violin, harmonica and more, according to its website.

Its mission is to not only empower youth through music but also develop a strong community of talented and profession­al musicians. Its curriculum helps students’ musical abilities as well as their overall education, according to the website.
