All Bernalillo County bond questions approved
Nearly $39 million to be generated for public works projects
Bernalillo County voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved all six bond questions that will generate $38.7 million for a variety of needs including housing, library books, fire station upgrades, park improvements and road and storm drain work.
Here’s the breakdown on the approved bonds:
Bond Question No. 1: Library Bonds – $1.75 million to purchase materials for all branches of the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County library system.
Bond Question No. 2: Public Safety Facilities and Other County Buildings Bonds – $16.75 million to upgrade fire stations, install an emergency mobile radio system, construct a 12,000-square-foot Commission chamber, and purchase a public safety training and helicopter facility.
Bond Question No. 3: Parks and Recreation Bonds – $4.95 million to improve everything from ball fields to improvements to the South Valley Pool.
Bond Question No. 4: Transportation Bonds – $8.5 million to design, construct and repair roads and related non-motor vehicle pathways, including $500,000 to extend Sunport Boulevard from Broadway to Interstate 25.
Bond Question No. 5: Storm Drainage and Utilities Bonds – $5.5 million to pay for fiber optic installation, flood damage reduction, and storm drainage projects and sewer infrastructure, including more than $2.8 million for Barcelona storm drainage.
Bond Question No. 6: Public Housing Bonds – $1.25 million to modernize senior and disabled multifamily units, and fund the second phase of the Tiny Homes project.
Bond funds must be fully spent on capital projects – that means bricks and mortar – not on daily operations or maintenance, within three years of the bond sale.
Voters also overwhelmingly said yes to $25 million in General Obligation Flood Control Bonds.
The Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority will use the bond to fund additional improvements to its flood control system, including the Louisiana-Gibson Regional Drainage Facility at Kirtland Air Force Base, the Calabacillas Grade Control Structure 1A1, Montaño Levee and Hamilton Dam.
