Wildcats rebound in big way, No. 7 Nevada rolls to 2-0
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Keldon Johnson and Immanuel Quickley each scored 15 points, Nick Richards grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds and No. 2 Kentucky rallied in the second half to beat Southern Illinois 71-59 on Friday night. The Wildcats (1-1) bounced back from Tuesday’s 118-84 shellacking by No. 4 Duke, but had to work hard in the second half. Kentucky dominated SIU 48-19 on the glass.
NO. 6 TENNESSEE 87, LA.-LAFAYETTE 65: In Knoxville, Tenn., Grant Williams scored 31 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and showcased his newfound 3-point range for Tennessee.
NO. 7 NEVADA 83, PACIFIC 61: In Reno, Nev., Caleb Martin scored all of his 22 points in the second half and the Wolf Pack shot 48 percent from 3-point range. NO. 12 KANSAS STATE 56, KENNESAW STATE 41: In Manhattan, Kan., Barry Brown and Makol Mawien each scored 15 points and Kansas State stumbled through a season-opening win. NO. 18 MISSISSIPPI STATE 95, AUSTIN PEAY 67: In Starkville, Miss., Quinndary Weatherspoon scored 21 points, Nick Weatherspoon added 19 as Mississippi State won its opener. NEW MEXICO ST. 91, UTEP 66: In Las Cruces, the Aggies (2-0) beat the Miners (1-1) for the eighth consecutive time. No other details were available as of late Friday. Reports were that NMSU was experiencing technical difficulties with its statistical software.
WESTERN NM 81, NM HIGHLANDS 75: At the Rudy Davalos Center, NMSU transfer Leston Gordon had 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Mustangs rallied from a 17-point second half deficit in New Mexico Classic action. Gerad Davis scored 28 points to lead NMHU, which plays today at 3 p.m. vs. Eastern New Mexico at Dreamstyle Arena. WNMU plays Fort Lewis at 12:30 p.m. FORT LEWIS COLLEGE 82, EASTERN NM 74: At the Rudy Davalos Center, Kevin Biggs had 20 points and helped the Skyhawks break away in the second half after being tied 35-35 at halftime in the New Mexico Classic. The Greyhounds got 21 points and nine rebounds from senior forward Chukuka Emili.

AUBURN 80, NICHOLLS STATE 59: In Auburn, Ala., Daisa Alexander scored 20 points and the Tigers (2-0) scored 29 points off of turnovers. New Mexico hosts Auburn on Sunday in the preseason WNIT.
