SCOUTING THE LOBOS
A year ago, the Lobos ended the season with a seven-game losing streak.
This year, obviously, they want to avoid that type of finish, but they are amid a four-game skid. They will look for in help in another strong performance from their defense. Last week, the UNM defense stepped up with three turnovers despite missing starters, linebacker Evahelotu Tohi (suspension) and safety Marcus Hayes (concussion symptoms). Today, Tohi remains on suspension while Hayes returns. But Hayes, who also returns punts, will not start, coach Bob Davie said. Davie wants Stanley
Barnwell Jr. to team up with Bijon Parker as the safeties to defend Air Force’s triple-option. On offense, the Lobos want to start senior Coltin Gerhart at quarterback, but he is battling pain in his foot, as he sprained it in the season opener, and last week had a setback in his first game back.
